Jodeci is back in the present for the Ladies Night R&B Super Jam

In 1991, Jodeci’s “Forever My Lady” was on every R&B fan’s mind. The debut single laid the groundwork for a successful few years for the vocal quartet, made up of two sets of brothers — Cedric “K-Ci” Hailey, Joel “JoJo” Hailey, Dalvin “Mr. Dalvin” DeGrate and Donald “DeVante Swing” DeGrate.

Jodeci’s music — flirtatious, raw and relatable — served as a soundtrack to many a romantic relationship. Thanks to their bad-boy personas and soulful harmonies set over hip-hop-influenced beats, the band, clad often in sunglasses, boots and leather attire, captured fans who craved something edgier than the mellow sound of fellow boy band Boyz II Men.

But in 1995, the band released what would be their final album for 20 years, “The Show, the After Party, the Hotel.” (After that, K-Ci and JoJo stepped out on their own and released “All My Life.”)

Although they claim they never broke up, Jodeci reunited last year for “The Past, The Present, The Future,” their fourth studio album. Saturday’s concert features a performance by the quartet, as well as other treasured R&B acts including Faith Evans, El Debarge, Blackstreet and Carl Thomas, who sang plenty of songs with female listeners in mind. It’s the kind of lineup that reconnects fans with memories of decades past. Perhaps when the lights go down at Verizon Center, the ’90s won’t feel so distant.
